Pay My Lawyer is a legal payment processing and practice-management platform built for solo attorneys and small-to-medium law firms — handling payment collection across multiple methods (cards, Venmo, CashApp, checks, and cash), automated reconciliation that matches payments to the correct client even when names are common or multiple people are paying, customizable payment categories, client onboarding, a booking calendar, and a lawyer directory designed to support case referrals within a vetted network. It's also marketed under Spanish-language branding (PagoAbogado, AbogadoPago) to reach bilingual clients across the Rio Grande Valley's border community. The company went through the Emerging Industries cohort of Startup Texas, the accelerator sponsored by the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) in partnership with UTRGV's Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center (ECC), with its August 2024 application, and later applied to the Startup Texas Advancement Fund.
The three co-founders had already been working together for four years by the time of their 2024 application. CEO Daniel Pizana is a practicing Brownsville attorney (Law Office of Daniel Pizana PLLC, focused on criminal defense, family law, and immigration) and a licensed U.S. Customs Broker; he's also a co-founder of Noah's Ark, a separate pet-care startup also profiled in this set. CIO Juan Pablo Torne, who holds a degree in Computer Information Systems, is likewise a co-founder of Noah's Ark. CFO Rafael Nunez holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence along with a Finance and Accounting degree. The company was self-funded by the three founders and had zero full-time employees as of both applications.
