Company description
Shape Cards is a reusable digital business card — a single plastic card that replaces a stack of paper ones, letting users tap it against a phone (or use a QR code) to instantly share contact information, websites, and social media profiles, with integration into Google and Apple Wallet. As founder Sebastian Melendez put it in a KRGV "Made in the 956" feature, the idea is to carry "only one that's made of plastic, and you re-use it as many times as possible" instead of a pile of paper cards. The company is a graduate of the Emerging Industries cohort of Startup Texas, the accelerator sponsored by the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) in partnership with UTRGV's Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center (ECC), and was also selected for BCIC's "2 for $2,000" pitch competition — a program sponsored by Supply Pay, itself a past Startup Texas success story now putting money back into newer Brownsville entrepreneurs.
Founder Sebastian Melendez is a UTRGV International Business student at the Robert C. Vackar College of Business and Entrepreneurship who completed much of his early education in Matamoros before continuing his academic and professional path in Brownsville, giving him fluency in both Spanish and English. Alongside building Shape Cards, he works as a Client Success Coordinator at Cobalt Digital Marketing and has an incoming Marketing Analyst role lined up at Dell Technologies. He founded Shape Cards in August 2023 with co-founder Ramon Garcia, an experienced RGV-based programmer, and the two had been working together for about a year by the time of their January 2025 Startup Texas application.
