Diabuddy

Company description

DiaBuddy is being built as an all-in-one diabetes management app meant to consolidate the scattered parts of managing diabetes — tracking blood sugar and other health data, generating reports for healthcare appointments, and organizing day-to-day care — into a single, user-friendly place. The team positions it against existing diabetes and health-tracking apps like mySugr, TwinHealth, Nutrisense, Lingo, and Levels, with the pitch being consolidation and simplicity rather than any one standout feature. The company presented at Startup Texas's September 2025 public pitch nights at the eBridge Center, part of a program run by the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) in partnership with UTRGV's Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center (ECC) and, for the SBIR/STTR track, the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES).

DiaBuddy was founded in March 2025 by four co-founders, all working part-time/voluntarily as of their application: Alan Salinas, a product leader with seven years of management experience translating customer pain points into product strategy; Rebecca Villarreal, a first-time entrepreneur focused on bridging wellness and technology; Yolisma Pena, handling marketing and community outreach; and Victoria Flores, a business student focused on operations and growth strategy. The team had been working together for only about three months at the time of their May 2025 Startup Texas application.

Founders: Alan Salinas, Rebecca Villarreal, Yolisma Pena, and Victoria Flores (all Co-Founders)

Program: Started in the StartUp Texas Emerging Industries Accelerator, then advanced to the 2025 Startup Texas SBIR/STTR Innovation Competition
