Velox Global Solutions

Company description

Velox Global Solutions set out to "digitize trucklines so they can run like airlines" — a digital freight brokerage platform built around an electronic bill of lading (eBL) for independent motor carriers, most of whom still rely on paper BOLs that can cost them thousands of dollars a month in payment delays or lost loads over something as small as a missing page. The eBL system is designed to protect carriers' rates, add charges on the fly, and let truckers take reload reservations while driving, giving independent haulers something closer to the booking efficiency of an airline. The company celebrated its public launch party for the platform at BCIC's eBridge Center in June 2023, shortly before joining the Emerging Industries cohort of Startup Texas, the accelerator and pitch competition sponsored by the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) in partnership with UTRGV's Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center (ECC).

Founder Steve Perez has been coding since 1983 and spent 1995–2000 as Customs & Traffic Manager for Mexicana Airlines, where he built and maintained a dual customs system with integrated logistics. From 2000–2009 he ran Aircraft on Ground (AOG) Logistics, fielding calls from U.S. and Mexican air carriers needing help rescuing stranded aircraft and engines from difficult Mexican airports, handling emergency shipments, and occasionally booking air charters. He currently maintains dual customs systems for roughly 10 maquiladoras — about 10% of Matamoros's industrial base — and founded Velox in April 2020 to bring 14 years of that supply-chain technology experience into one integrated platform.
