Masxoro

Company description

Masxoro is a Brownsville haute couture atelier that hand-crafts exclusive, custom-fitted high-end fashion — blouses, corsets, jewelry, and other one-of-a-kind pieces built to order for clients ranging from weddings and birthdays to the film industry. The atelier was part of the Quality of Life Ventures cohort of Startup Texas, the accelerator and pitch competition sponsored by the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) in partnership with UTRGV's Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center (ECC) and taught at the eBridge Center.

Founder and creative director John Mascorro grew up in Brownsville and graduated from Lopez Early College High School before earning a B.F.A. in Acting with an emphasis in design from St. Edward's University in 2021. After nearly a decade working on film, TV, and fashion sets in Austin, he moved back home and launched Masxoro in October 2021, working alongside his family and a small studio team — including lead seamstress Norma Reyes and social media manager Natalie Mascorro — to bring a full haute couture experience to the Rio Grande Valley, so clients no longer have to travel to Houston, Austin, or Dallas for custom luxury fashion.

Masxoro's work has been covered by The Rider, UTRGV's student newspaper, which photographed a runway show for the brand's spring/summer collection, "The Masxoro Atelier Prays," staged at the Isabella Medical Beauty wellness center in Brownsville. The collection included blouses, corsets, and jewelry modeled on the runway, with pieces available for purchase directly through the designer.
