GreenZone Enterprises
Company description
GreenZone Enterprises is a Brownsville recycling company that rewards customers with GreenZoneX (GZX), a utility cryptocurrency token built on the XRP Ledger, for recycling — an attempt to turn a "circular economy" model into a free, incentive-based recycling program rather than the fee-based service most residential haulers offer. The company was part of the Emerging Industries cohort of Startup Texas, the accelerator and pitch competition sponsored by the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) in partnership with UTRGV's Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center (ECC) and taught at the eBridge Center, and was featured by name in BCIC's own announcement of the 2023 Emerging Industries pitch competition lineup.
Founder and CEO Tionte Boggan is a disabled combat veteran of the U.S. Army who served in Brownsville assisting Border Patrol in 2019 before turning to entrepreneurship. He co-founded the company with Krishna Rosso, a 23-year Brownsville resident and former spa owner, in 2021. GreenZone's pitch centers on tokenizing the value of recyclable waste and redistributing it back to residents, businesses, and community members who recycle, rather than charging them a monthly service fee the way conventional waste haulers do.
